With no time to gather troops to prepare another defense, 3,500 cadets from the nearby Pardos Academy were assigned to defend as infantry artillery.
To endure them without retreating for exactly 5 days
Although ordered, they were able to hold out for 12 days when reinforcements were delayed.
Although 2,500 of the 3,500 cadets were killed, the Germans were unable to advance to Moscow, changing the outcome of the war.
